From our very beginning, families supporting families has been NYSARC’s strength. We are governed by families. Our emphasis is family. NYSARC seeks to empower families by uniting them across generational, social, racial and ethnic divides so they can learn from each other, support each other, and use their collective strength to influence crucial developments in public policy.

The development of our programs and services has mirrored the development of our family members with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. NYSARC began with educational programs and then developed employment and residential alternatives. Our strong emphasis on guardianship ensures that families can continue, when necessary, to make decisions for their loved ones into adulthood. Today, as families assist their loved ones to reach their full potential, NYSARC is vigorously supporting consumer empowerment and self-advocacy.
