March Declared DD Awareness Month

March 2009 marks the 31st annual celebration of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in New York State.

It is estimated that more than 4 million Americans have developmental disabilities, 300 thousand of whom live in New York State.

Carrying the theme, "Celebrating People - People. Progress. Potential." the NYS campaign is part of a national celebration organized by state and local Arc's.

On March 1, 2009 Governor Paterson issued a gubernatorial proclamation giving officials state recognition of this important observance.

NYSARC, Inc. Chapters use this time to let their communities know about what they do and to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of the people they support.

A 2009 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Poster is available.  Please click here to view and print it.
